Take your phone (notifications) to VR

The team hailing from Germany has released a unique way to bring your notifications into VR.

This is a much needed feature as we all too often find ourselves peeking from the nose light area while closing one eye to look at our phone while in VR, knowing that taking off the headset dooms doom, especially when you are wearing glasses or have long hair. Glasses get tangled in the headset, game is paused, it’s a headache literally on the head. Ok too much diving into people that wear glasses and have long hair and look at their phones while in VR. Back to the boon point. This thing is awesome.

The way it works, is it is built as a SteamVR overlay tool, super simple integration for your Steam VR experiences.

The control are natural and very non-invasive. See.

Felix Schaefer, the CMO at Holoswitch notes that the Holoswitch also has a dashboard which will show all your notifications. The Holocom (the name of the wrist notifier) displays the last notification received with a max 235 characters + a small orange bubbled number in the top right corner showing how many other notifications you have received. You can then open up your dashboard to see everything.

Holoswitch currently works with Android and SteamVR powered devices. But that’s great to get started.

Some cool features on the roadmap for 2020 Q3 include:

  • VR Snapshots — Easy and simple way to take snapshots directly stored on the phone.
  • Prototype for Holoswitch iOS
  • VR Video Capture
  • Music Streaming (currently in research)
  • And Phone Calls (ditto)

We wish the team good luck and excited to use what they release!

With hugs,

From Knox
